Inspirational Musings

Insights for Those in Recovery

In the winter of 2017-18, I fell and broke my left hip. It was a stupid fall, nothing fancy, just stupid. I lay on the floor not being able to move, and then realized I could shout to Siri to call 911, this worked perfectly. Soon, the CMTs were all over my house, two of my girl friends came over to help and to make sure my little YoYo wasn’t too scared. The ambulance ride was scary, nothing like this had never happened to me before. In the Emergency area the tests and x-rays were taken and it was determined my left elbow, wrist, knee, and ankle were sprained; but, I had a fracture at the hip joint. Of course, I was in pain to which the nurses gave me plenty of medication! The following day I underwent surgery to put pins across the fracture to stabilize my hip while it healed. After four days in the hospital I was transferred to a rehabilitation facility.

In the rehab center, I wasn’t to put any weight on my left leg for three to four weeks! This meant hopping to the wheelchair and bathroom, and standing on one leg like a flamingo! Soon, I received physical therapy to keep my body moving as much as it could. I had many visitors bringing flowers, food, plants, sweets, and books. One of my dear sister-friends brought me a new purple pen and a wire-bound Journal, knowing I would need to write my thoughts and feelings down as the long weeks stretched out for over a month--this is where my story really begins.

The pages of my new Journal were perfectly lined, which made it easy to focus on jotting down my emotions, my fears, my discomfort, my questions, and my spiritual lessons and insights. Each day I would write at least one page, even if it was only a sentence or two. Soon, I was writing for hours sitting at a small table next to a lonely window with saggy gold curtains. My daytime consisted of hours of physical therapy, seeing visitors, and writing in my Journal. I offer these personal insights in my booklet Inspirational Musings: Insights for Those in Recovery to all those going through any type of healing or recovery from addiction, injury, or emotional trauma to gain self-knowledge, insight, and strength on their journey through life.

Blessings,
Barbara~

"When we are in the depths of recovering, we often feel bound by the weightiness of negative emotions and physical discomfort. Opening ourselves up to sources of encouragement feels futile. However, psychotherapist and author Dr. Barbara Sinor provides us with a compassionate companion in her newest book Inspirational Musings: Insight for Those in Recovery, easing us gently into the words of wise teachers and into the warm comforting lessons gleaned from her personal healing journey. Sinor’s poetic musings around topics such as Compassion, Suffering, Beauty, Joy, Awakening, and Faith not only inspire us, but awaken our souls to discover meaning and purpose both during and after our pain."
